Sonal Patel is a senior policy officer for State Health Policy in the foundation’s Sacramento office, which leverages the foundation’s data, expertise, and partnerships to help California’s state government make informed decisions about health care. The State Health Policy office supports the work of policymakers and state agencies and departments through research and analysis, technical support, policy briefings, and similar activities.

Before joining CHCF, Sonal led a variety of health policy and budget topics at California’s Department of Finance and supported the development of the annual budget for various health departments, including the Department of Health Care Services and California Department of Public Health (CDPH). She also worked as a California Epidemiologic Investigation Service (Cal-EIS) Fellow at CDPH.

Sonal received bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and molecular biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in public health from the University of California, Irvine.
