Marissa Montano, PhD

Senior Policy Officer, State Health Policy

Marissa Montano is a senior policy officer for State Health Policy in the foundation’s Sacramento office, which leverages the foundation’s data, expertise, and partnerships to help California’s state government make informed decisions about health care. The State Health Policy office supports the work of policymakers and state agencies and departments through research and analysis, technical support, policy briefings, and similar activities.

Before joining CHCF, Marissa worked for nonprofits including the Educational Results Partnership, Insure the Uninsured Project, and most recently, as VP of advocacy and policy at the California Academy of Family Physicians. She also served in the Assembly Health Committee as a California Council on Science and Technology Fellow, a program designed to bring PhD-level researchers into public policy.

Marissa received a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Drew University and a PhD in endocrinology and reproductive physiology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
