Interpreting in Palliative Care

In 2011-2012, CHCF supported the development of resources for training health care interpreters on topics related to serious illness care and palliative care. These resources included a continuing education workshop curriculum and handouts, including bilingual glossaries of palliative care terms in Spanish, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Russian, as well as training exercises, practice dialogues, and guidance for giving feedback.

This work also included development on an online training course; the current version of that course is available on the Health Care Interpreter Network’s HCIN Learn platform (Note: Log-In required. Please log in first and then search for “Interpreting in Palliative Care.”)
