Through this model, selected physician-based and rural participants in MSSP will receive advance payments that will be repaid from the future shared savings earned. "Look-alike" ACOs, also known as commercial ACOs, contract with health plans in a model similar to those defined in the Medicare program and serve a commercially insured population. In California, these organizations work with a Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) -licensed health plan and are under DMHC jurisdiction.
