Housing-related Community Supports are Medi-Cal services that help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness access and maintain stable housing. California launched these services starting in 2022 as part of the California Advancing and Improving Medi-Cal initiative, also known as CalAIM.
In 2024, CHCF funded the Corporation for Supportive Housing and Klurfeld Consulting to convene a Housing Community Supports Implementation Advisory Committee. The committee brought together more than 100 stakeholders — including managed care plans, Community Supports providers, Continuum of Care entities, county agencies, and people with lived experience of homelessness — to improve housing-related Community Supports implementation.
The committee developed tools to help partners in the field:
- County Integration Report
- Examines how 10 California counties are integrating housing Community Supports into their Coordinated Entry Systems and Continuums of Care, with community profiles and process maps.
- Referral and Authorization Toolkit
- Provides detailed workflows to help providers, managed care plans, and partners streamline referral and authorization for housing services.
- Housing Deposits Recommendations
- Offers guidance for DHCS, managed care plans, and providers to improve Housing Deposits implementation, including 10 committee-approved recommendations.
