About This Event

As the field of palliative care continues to evolve, understanding community-based palliative care fee-for-service (FFS) billing is critical. Our health care reimbursement system is moving to one paying for quality outcomes and value, yet FFS medicine remains alive and well. This webinar took participants through the traditional palliative care physician and non-physician practitioner payable services — evaluation and management services — and provided information on nontraditional services that have the potential to maximize your program’s revenue and can help support quality payment program reporting.

The webinar was presented by Jean Acevedo, president and senior consultant at Acevedo Consulting. Acevedo is a compliance consultant known nationally for her deep knowledge of hospice and palliative care physician services billing. She also discussed the physician services changes the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed, such as “virtual visits,” the medical necessity of home visits, blended evaluation and management payments, and others that may significantly impact community-based palliative care program reimbursement as of January 1, 2019.

In addition to presenting this webinar, Acevedo has prepared a companion palliative care FFS billing handbook — Documentation and Coding Handbook: Palliative Care (PDF) — that summarizes information presented in the webinar and the new proposed CMS rules.
