CalAIM builds on the experiences of Medi-Cal’s Whole Person Care pilots and Health Homes Program to bring the successes of these two programs to scale statewide. Both programs demonstrated the importance of developing the community-connected workforce, including peer support specialists, community health workers, and promotores de salud. These critical members of the care team fill a unique role in CalAIM by providing culturally congruent, person-centered support and bridging different health and social services systems.
CalAIM strengthens the imperative for managed care plans to support the growth and development of this workforce and to deepen their partnerships with the community-based organizations that often employ them.
