CalAIM Experiences: Implementer Views by Region in Year Three of Reforms

Key takeaways

The five regional reports drawn from the 2024 survey of CalAIM implementers are:
  • Bay Area
  • Central Coast
  • Central Valley
  • Northern California
  • Southern California

In December 2024, the California Health Care Foundation unveiled a comprehensive statewide survey capturing the on-the-ground realities of implementing CalAIM (California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal). The initiative aims to transform the Medi-Cal system to better serve Californians.

The online survey was conducted by Goodwin Simon Strategic Research in August and September 2024 among 948 people working at managed care plans, behavioral health organizations, and community-based organizations, collectively known as “implementers.” These implementers are pivotal in bringing CalAIM’s vision to life.

To delve deeper into regional dynamics, Goodwin produced five regional reports from the survey data. These reports illuminate the unique challenges and successes experienced by implementers in various parts of California. The focus on regional experiences reveals detailed insights that could help in developing focused strategies to improve the impact of CalAIM.
