CHCF Names Peter Currie SVP of Program Strategy and Innovation

Collaborative leader, behavioral and physical health integration expert

Dr. Peter Currie, a licensed psychologist and behavioral health executive who has led the integration of behavioral health services within large medical delivery systems, has been named senior vice president of program strategy and innovation at the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF). He will begin at the foundation on August 1.

Currie has extensive managed care experience, including developing networks to deliver behavioral health services to plan members. Currently, he serves as senior director of clinical transformation and integration for Inland Empire Health Plan in Rancho Cucamonga, California, a public health plan serving more than 1.1 million Medi-Cal, Healthy Kids, and Medicare dual-eligible members in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. He served as clinical director of behavioral health at Inland Empire Health Plan from 2009 to 2015.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter to CHCF,” said Dr. Sandra R. Hernández, president and CEO of CHCF. “Peter has a distinguished record of building partnerships and engaging stakeholders to take on the important work of delivery system change. His depth of expertise and collaborative working style will be invaluable to advancing CHCF’s mission.”

“I’m thrilled to join CHCF to help in the effort to create a health care system that works for all Californians,” said Dr. Currie. “I’ve had a number of opportunities to work with CHCF in the past, including as a fellow of the CHCF Health Care Leadership Program, which enabled me to observe the organization up close. The opportunity to help chart the organization’s strategic course in this transformative period is very exciting.”

“The board welcomes Dr. Currie to his new role,” said CHCF Board Chair Barbara N. Lubash. “His leadership in developing innovative care models for underserved Californians will be a great asset to CHCF.”

Previously, Currie developed a regional delivery system that served more than 500,000 capitated members and created and implemented “Rapid Stabilization” programs for university medical centers and freestanding psychiatric hospitals, including the development of an electronic behavioral health record.

He has also held executive positions with Loma Linda University Health Care and Psychological Health Resources, among other organizations. He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Northridge, and master’s and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles.
