Medi-Cal Explained: Fact Sheet

Medi-Cal Explained

These fact sheets are part of CHCF’s Medi-Cal Explained series. The series provides an overview of the program, including the people it serves, the services it provides, and how it is organized, managed, and financed.

Millions of Californians covered by Medi-Cal live with disabling conditions or chronic illnesses and require assistance with common activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and eating.

In California, a patchwork of programs provide services to help these people, collectively known as long-term services and supports (LTSS). LTSS are financed through a combination of federal, state, and local funds.

This fact sheet, part of the Medi-Cal Explained series, provides an overview of LTSS benefits covered under Medi-Cal, including skilled nursing facility services, personal care services, self-directed personal assistance services, in-home supportive services, and home and community-based services.
