Health care is a necessity. Everyone — regardless of their income, skin color, or the language they speak — should have access to care. Technology is vital to the delivery of health care and overall well-being.
That’s why we partner with emerging companies, health plans, and providers. We aim to improve access and ensure people-centered care by bringing the best innovations and technology to providers, health systems, payers, and patients in the Medicaid ecosystem.
We identify innovative solutions and make them more available to bring about widespread improvements in our state’s health care system so that all Californians can access the care they need, when they need it. Our investments align with the strategic priorities of our grantmakers. We do not support life sciences and medical device companies.
Our Commitment to Diversity and Equity
We believe that technology solutions should be developed by people in the communities they serve because they have a better understanding of the challenges in their communities. The Innovation Fund is committed to cultivating innovative solutions and to promoting equity through investments in companies that reflect the population served by Medi-Cal.
By the numbers:
- 79% of Medi-Cal enrollees identify as Latino/x, Black, or people of color.
- 1% of VC-funded start-up founders nationally are Black and 0.4% are Latino/x.
We are working to grow the number of Black, Latino/x, people-of-color, and female-founded companies in our portfolio. These founders are critical partners because they are often able to tap their lived experiences to champion solutions that align with our mission of improving health care delivery to all Californians.
