Jim Wood, D.D.S., is a dentist, former California state legislator, and member of the California Health Care Foundation board of directors. He served as the Assemblymember for California’s 2nd District — spanning the North Coast from Santa Rosa to the Oregon border — from 2014 to 2024, and chaired the Assembly Health Committee for eight years, the longest tenure since the 1950s.
Before his legislative career, Wood owned and operated a family dental practice in Cloverdale for more than 25 years and served in local government as a planning commissioner, city council member, and mayor. A nationally recognized forensic odontologist, he served on the Department of Homeland Security’s Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team and assisted in identifying victims following the September 11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2018 Camp Fire. Wood earned his B.S. from the University of California, Riverside, and his D.D.S. from Loma Linda University, where he graduated in the top five of his class.
