The California Health Care Foundation’s success depends on our colleagues’ high level of commitment and expertise. Whether working in one of our programs to expand access to affordable, quality health care, or supporting our mission as a member of the administrative team, you will be surrounded by creative and dynamic people who are passionate about their work.
Workplace Culture
Many of our colleagues have been here for five years or longer, which points to a rewarding professional experience at CHCF. We support a collaborative culture that recognizes both team and individual achievements. Employees are encouraged to contribute innovative ideas. We support transparency with an open-door philosophy that includes regular staff meetings to discuss strategy, projects, and organizational developments. Read more about our values.
We believe that embracing diversity in our workplace is essential to achieving results as an organization and that the quality of our grantmaking is enhanced when the demographics of our staff reflect the cultural diversity of the communities served. CHCF provides equal opportunities in employment for all people and we welcome applications from those who will contribute to our diversity.
Our main office, in downtown Oakland, is close to public transportation. We provide employees with Commuter Checks, paid parking, and/or secure bicycle parking. Our office furniture is designed with ergonomics in mind to provide a comfortable workspace. We are environmentally conscious, reducing our carbon footprint with solar electricity and a recycling and composting program.
Work/Life Balance
Although CHCF is a fast-paced environment, we support a healthy work/life balance. In addition to holidays and flexible paid time off, our office closes from December 24 through New Year’s Day, giving the staff time to relax and recharge. Frequent staff events, such as our summer and year-end celebrations and periodic gatherings on our deck, promote a collegial atmosphere.
Benefits
CHCF has a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, disability, long-term care, and life insurance. The 401(k) retirement savings plan has an employer matching contribution and an additional annual employer contribution. We also offer flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care expenses.
In addition, the foundation has an employee assistance program for personal, legal, or other issues and a wellness program that rewards staff for engaging in healthful activities. We also support community activities such as food drives and volunteer events, and we offer a charitable matching gifts program.
Professional Development
Our employees’ professional development is important to us. Each employee has a professional development plan that may include attending classes or seminars, or working with a mentor or coach. CHCF reimburses employees for 80% of the tuition for certificate or degree programs.
Applications for Employment
To apply for a position at CHCF, please submit your interest via our online application system. Unless otherwise noted, we will accept resumes until a position is filled, and we will try to let you know the status of your application in a timely manner.

Health Equity Fellowship Program
To support our vision for health equity for all Californians, CHCF is launching the CHCF Health Equity Fellowship Program. The mission of this program is to identify, develop, and support emerging Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) leaders who have the capacity to become local and regional catalysts for health equity across California.
