For the first time in California’s history, Medi-Cal will provide up to six months of rental assistance (known as “Transitional Rent”) to members experiencing or at risk of homelessness, to enable them to transition to stable, accessible, and affordable housing. Transitional Rent requires intensive collaboration across partners such as Medi-Cal managed care plans, counties, behavioral health agencies, Continuums of Care, and housing and homeless assistance providers.
With the support of the California Health Care Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, Homebase is working across California to support communities with Transitional Rent implementation through:
- Education about Transitional Rent and the roles of different sectors and partners
- Cross-county peer learning opportunities
- Facilitation of critical cross-sector partnerships at the local level
- Materials and tools to support local implementers
- Sharing of lessons learned
