Motivo Health offers a HIPAA-compliant platform that virtually connects prelicense therapists — marriage and family therapists, social workers, professional counselors, psychologists — with clinical supervisors in their states. Prelicense clinicians can search for and select a supervisor based on license type and thematic needs, schedule virtual supervision via video visits, and track hours.
Founded in 2018, Motivo Health is on a mission to increase the number of licensed mental health providers by providing accessible, affordable clinical supervision with a supervisor network of more than 1,200 clinicians. To date, the company has provided 2,500 people with more than 40,000 hours of supervision. Many of Motivo’s supervisors work in safety-net settings, and 70% of the company’s current supervisees reside in a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area.
Motivo Health was founded by CEO Rachel McCrickard, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and CTO Michael Chen. The idea for Motivo came from McCrickard’s own challenges in obtaining supervision in the rural South, where she incurred many hours of travel and expense. Rounding out the executive team is Carla Smith, PhD, LMFT, LCSW, who serves as chief clinical officer. She has over 10 years of experience training clinicians on health equity and racial trauma and is an advocate of Black mental health equity.
