Gerald “Jerry” Coil, an expert in health systems management, will join the California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) as its first Senior Fellow in Residence, the foundation announced today.
The year-long fellowship will allow CHCF staff to benefit from Coil’s extensive experience working with health care organizations on improving clinical and financial performance.
“I cannot think of a more exciting place to be than at CHCF during this moment in time,” Coil said. “This fellowship offers a front-row seat to health care reform and an opportunity to contribute to the organization and its mission.”
“Jerry will add a critical dimension to our work, bringing with him decades of experience with the inner workings of the health care system,” said Mark D. Smith, MD, MBA, president and CEO of CHCF. “He will help ensure that we are focusing our efforts to improve the health care system where we can have the greatest impact.”
Coil will work with Smith on projects related to health care payment reform and will support the foundation’s programs in their work on improving the way health care is financed and delivered to the people of California.
Coil comes to CHCF from AltaMed Health Services in Southern California where he was the vice president for enterprise services. AltaMed is California’s largest nonprofit federally qualified health center.
He will begin his residency at CHCF’s Oakland offices in January 2013. See Gerald Coil’s bio on LinkedIn.
About the California Health Care Foundation
The California Health Care Foundation is dedicated to advancing meaningful, measurable improvements in the way the health care delivery system provides care to the people of California, particularly those with low incomes and those whose needs are not well served by the status quo. We work to ensure that people have access to the care they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford.
