According to a survey by the California Health Care Foundation, most Medi-Cal enrollees have a favorable view of this essential health coverage program. However, barriers to access and enrollment exist.

If upheld by the Supreme Court, the Affordable Care Act could add two to three million people to the Medi-Cal program, potentially exacerbating the issues raised by enrollees.

CHCF hosted a Sacramento briefing that explores the results of this survey of more than 1,000 Medi-Cal enrollees — the largest of its kind. Presenters examined the experiences and attitudes of enrollees to illuminate where the program excels and where improvement is needed.

They also discussed implications of the findings for state lawmakers and program officials who are considering ways to slow the growth of Medi-Cal spending as they prepare to integrate millions of new enrollees. A series of short videos offer individuals’ reflections on their experiences with Medi-Cal.
