Manatt Health Solutions

August 2009

The recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) allocates funding for a number of programs that could improve the quality of and access to dental care for Californians.

This fact sheet details select ARRA programs related to oral health and oral health care providers, including:

  • Adoption incentives for electronic health records (EHRs) for practices and clinics that treat Medi-Cal and Medicare patients;
  • A state-sponsored loan program for the purchase or enhancement of an EHR system;
  • Scholarships for dental education and training;
  • Increased federal matching funds for Denti-Cal, California's Medicaid dental care program; and
  • Funds for oral health prevention and wellness care, dental research, and federally qualified health centers.
