Telepsychiatry is used in some emergency departments to make the process of evaluating and treating patients with mental health issues more efficient. This paper examines seven ED telepsychiatry programs in terms of structure, financing, and challenges.

Behavioral health care for California's youth tends to be fragmented and poorly coordinated, due in part to reliance on paper records. Information systems tailored specifically to behavioral health care could improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these services.

This issue brief explores the laws governing health information privacy as they relate to mental health and substance abuse treatment, and presents three scenarios illustrating the challenges in finding the right balance between privacy and disclosure.
