Why Are Medi-Cal Rates Important?

Some of the most highly charged and frequently debated issues in the Medi-Cal program are how and how much providers get paid. The rates established to pay for services rendered to Medi-Cal beneficiaries is critically important to a large array of providers, including health plans, physicians, hospitals, long term care facilities, and dentists.

Medi-Cal rates are important because they have the potential to impact access, quality of care, and the availability of care for the uninsured. For these reasons, Medi-Cal rates play a considerable role in the achievement of the goals of Medi-Cal managed care and the Medi-Cal program as a whole.
