In support of Cover the Uninsured Week (March 10-16, 2003), the California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) is providing a number of information resources on the uninsured in California based on its research and analysis. Reports focus on the state's special challenges and explore various ways of covering more Californians.

Issues discussed include:
  • The profile of California's uninsured;
  • The status of employment-based coverage; and
  • Why some people chose to remain uninsured. A number of approaches to covering more Californians are explored, including:
  • Strategies to boost enrollment in public programs, including Health-e-App;
  • Assessing the potential of purchasing alliances for small firms;
  • Facilitating public/private partnerships to expand coverage;
  • Designing an online health insurance resource center for small businesses; and
  • Supporting private localized programs aimed at covering the uninsured. The California HealthCare Foundation, based in Oakland, is an independent philanthropy committed to improving California's health care delivery and financing systems.
