As part of the Medi-Cal Bridge to Reform Waiver, California created the nation’s first Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) program four years ago to better integrate and organize care delivery in public hospital systems, and to improve patient health outcomes. California’s DSRIP program provides up to $3.3 billion in federal incentives for public hospital systems to vastly expand quality improvement initiatives. Since then, the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved DSRIP programs in six other states.

The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF), Blue Shield of California Foundation (BSCF), and the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) hosted a half-day forum on the future of California’s DSRIP. The forum gathered experts from California and other states with DSRIP programs to discuss differences in design, identify lessons learned, and foster new insights and ideas as California redesigns its program.
