About This Event

Access to specialty care in the safety net remains a longstanding challenge. Telemedicine has introduced new opportunities to expand access and improve quality in the primary care setting. Learn about two successful programs during this webinar.

Open Door Community Health Centers, a Federally Qualified Health Center based in Eureka, California, has used telemedicine to connect to specialty care since 1999, and now provides access to clinics and providers outside their system.

Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes), based at the University of New Mexico Medical Center, has used telemedicine technology to network with rural primary care providers for nearly a decade. Their model, which originally focused on hepatitis C care and now supports a range of chronic conditions, was highlighted in the May 2011 issue of Health Affairs.

The speakers were:

  • Frank Anderson, RN, director, Telehealth and Visiting Specialist Center, Open Door Community Health Centers, Eureka, CA
  • Sanjeev Arora, MD, director, Project ECHO, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque
