This course consists of a two-day onsite session and a follow-up WebEx session. The course is focused on using measurement effectively to set up and evaluate quality improvement projects.

The learning objectives are to:

• Develop a plan for system improvement that integrates outcome measures, key process measures, and balancing measures into an efficient measurement strategy
• Create a measurement plan, including: operational definitions, data collection methods, reporting, and training
• Understand and apply key measurement concepts such as population, stratification, sampling methods, and more
• Differentiate between common and special cause variation to identify successful process changes and to avoid common misinterpretations of the data

Knowledge of the Model for Improvement, PDSA, and run charts is strongly encouraged prior to taking this course. The course is aimed at medical directors, QI staff, data analysts, and other individuals who work with data in QI projects.
