Position Overview
The Senior Program Officer will play a major role in leading and supporting the goals and objectives of the foundation's work in one of three programs: Innovations for the Underserved, Market and Policy Monitor, or Better Chronic Disease Care.

The Senior Program Officer will focus on initiatives related to the improvement of health care in California and will work closely with other programs and the CHCF office in Sacramento.
Primary Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of short- and long-term grantmaking strategies related to the program area.
- Lead in the development of concrete approaches for meeting program goals. This includes contributing to strategic decisionmaking about topics and projects to pursue, constructing and implementing work plans to meet identified needs, and managing relationships with grantees and potential grantees, as well as consultants and contractors.
- Initiate, solicit, and develop a portfolio of initiatives and grants that address specific program goals and objectives. Play a leadership role within the foundation and lead the work of cross-cutting teams as requested.
- Manage and monitor existing initiatives and grants, working with outside program offices and advisory committees, where appropriate, and with the foundation’s grants management staff.
- Produce and present written summaries, analyses, and recommendations for proposed projects and initiatives to the foundation's peer review committee and board of directors.
- Plan and convene meetings of key stakeholders to obtain input on ideas and projects and to guide initiative development.
- Keep abreast of key health care environment trends and activities in California and nationally.
- Represent CHCF at conferences and meetings.
Experience & Qualifications
- Advanced degree in health care administration, public health, public policy, or a related field and 7+ years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the health care delivery system, including cost, quality, and efficiency components
- Demonstrated ability to establish strategy, develop work plans, multitask, and deliver quality work on time and within budget
- Superb project management skills, with demonstrated experience managing complex projects involving a variety of stakeholders
- Strong understanding of the health care field, with knowledge of the California market
- Strong network of professional contacts in health care
- Motivation and commitment to the foundation's mission
- Experience working in a small- to medium-sized organization
